Enabling Technologies
The best service below the surface
3D at Depth is the world’s only true commercial deep-water LiDAR technology company. Our portfolio of subsea laser systems, remote-operated vehicles and moving platforms have been designed to address the needs of the subsea industry’s construction, survey and inspection operations.
The following technologies are part of an end-to-end measurement solution that enables the contactless evaluation and insight-driven management of offshore assets, submerged environments and water-filled infrastructures. If you’d like to know more about how we can support your next underwater measurement campaign, please get in touch.
Featured Technology: CUVIER DEEP Autonomous Underwater System
Transform an open deck vessel into a survey and inspection platform in less than 18 hours. Our containerized, fully-integrated ROV subsea vehicle inspection and survey solution is designed to optimize mobilizations.
Deepwater assets and offshore wind operators, owners and energy providers can now use enhanced information to reduce expenditure and risk, lower offshore man-hours and decrease their carbon footprint – without sacrificing quality.

The benefits:
- Optimized mobilization
- Transform an open deck vessel to a survey and inspection platform in less than 18 hours with our pre-set containers and equipment inventory.
- Maneuverability
- 360° with 6 degrees of freedom.
- Fully integrated
- The sensor payload is fully integrated with customized electronics and software to allow the AUV/ROV to act as one tool, enable one set-up and require one mobilization for multiple survey deliverables.
- Repeatability
- Patented subsea LiDAR with remote sensing technology adds an extra layer of measurement and repeatability.
- Compact
- The small footprint requires minimal transport and shipping costs.
Our LiDAR Technologies
Subsea LiDAR: SL4
The SL4 is a clear choice for remote operations, thanks to its faster collection times and greater remote diagnostic capabilities. The steerable, long-range beam places photons where you need them and the result is precise, accurate, millimetric 3D point clouds with reflectivity. Reflectivity and longer-range measurement repeatability are essential for more precise 3D modeling, analysis and visualization.
The benefits:
- 6x faster scanning speeds
- Scanning 30-degree x 30-degree sectors has been reduced from 5 minutes to just 52 seconds
- Long range, controllable beam
- Ranges from 1 meter to 45 meters
- Embedded MEMS inclinometer
- Calibrates pitch and roll to create real-world reference frames. This overcomes the inability to “level” a subsea sensor.
- Touchless measurements
- Little to no tooling required (task dependent)
- Depth rating
- 3000m standard or 4000m upon request
- Improved range precision (1σ)
- 1mm over full range of the sensor (1m to 45m)
- Subsea real-time processing
- Proprietary RIAAT Format (range/intensity/angle/angle/time)
- High performance pan-and-tilt
- 21-bit encoder for positional readback accuracy. Lower power drain with latch and lock position hold for multi-port CANBUS connectivity allows diagnostics and daisy chain connectivity to multiple Pan-and-Tilt units.
- Easily integrated
- Each SL system can be easily integrated and deployed on a wide range of systems including tripods, ROVs, AUVs, surface vessels and diver systems.
Subsea LiDAR: SL3
Each SL laser pulses at 40,000 times a second and can receive over 10 multi returns per pulse which are filtered through software. The result is precise, accurate, millimetric 3D point clouds with reflectivity – essential for more precise 3D modeling, analysis and visualization.
